Restaurant kitchen printers and stations: route orders clearly

Align print routes, kitchen displays and bar workflows so each order reaches the right workstation.

Send orders to the production station that handles them

A restaurant often has several work areas involved in the same guest order. Drinks may be prepared at the bar and food at one or more kitchen stations. For restaurant POS software to support daily work, orders need to reach the appropriate production points. Bonzumo offers configurable production stations, kitchen monitors and print rules. The actual routing should reflect your menu, equipment and working paths.

Begin with a simple map. Which station prepares each item? Do you have a pass, separate bar, cold kitchen or dessert area? Use names familiar to your team and check whether an item should appear at one station only or whether other areas need the information too. Then follow a typical order containing several items. This helps reveal whether anything prints twice, fails to appear or arrives at the wrong station.

Print rules and kitchen displays are part of the same configuration. Some businesses need a ticket at a workstation, others track open work digitally, and some use both. The setup should match actual responsibilities: who receives the ticket, who prepares the order and who checks the handover? Ask staff who work at the pass to review the flow. They can tell you whether tickets remain readable during a rush and whether status changes fit the way the station works.

Test more than the normal case. What happens if a printer is unavailable, an item sells out or an order is split between kitchen and bar? Your team needs a clear way to handle these situations. Check device and connection support for the equipment you intend to use rather than assuming compatibility from a general description. Also decide who may change routing rules and how new menu items will be assigned to the existing station structure.

A production setup can reduce time spent searching when routing reflects the real paths through your restaurant. Kitchen and bar gain a clearer work view, while service has a more useful basis for answering questions. Bring a station map, frequently ordered items and a mixed kitchen-and-bar ticket to a Bonzumo demo. You can review how printers, production points and monitors would be configured and whether the workflow remains understandable at peak times.
